You’ve probably already signed up for our weekly INBOX news updates on all things JETPATH FIGHT.
BUT NOW WE URGENTLY ASK EVERYONE TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE FLIGHT PATH FORUM GROUP.
IT’S FREE, AND, YOU CAN NOW DONATE TO THE CAUSE – A SMALL EFFORT FROM A UNITED COMMUNITY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
Flight Path Forum continue our efforts to inform affected communities of the proposed flight paths and lobby our government representatives to ensure that proper process has been followed by Airservices and Sunshine Coast Council on the issue.
Flight Path Forum has become an incorporated association and received formal notification from the following organisations who wish to work collaboratively with Flight Path Forum:
- Friends of Lake Weyba
- Castaways Beach Resident’s Association
- Peregian Family and Friends Association
- Peregian Beach Community Association
- Noosa Hinterland Resident’s Association
A number of unincorporated groups have also offered their support and we are in the process of reaching out to other community associations that cover the Eumundi, Doonan, Sunshine Beach, Sunrise Beach and Noosa areas.
Noosa Council have been very supportive and while Sunshine Coast Council have rejected their request for an extension on the consultation period, Noosa Council continue to lobby for their shire by now making submissions to Airservices Australia and the Aircraft Noise Ombudsman. Now that the election period is over, Flight Path Forum will increase efforts to meet with and supply information to state and federal representatives in a bid to get action from government organisations to address the issues and prevent the lodgement of airspace change and flight paths.
Sunshine Coast Council recently held a Special Projects meeting, where an update on the Airport Expansion Project stated that they need preliminary design of the Airspace and Flight Paths completed by June 2109. This timeline is required to prevent the project being delayed and resulting in additional costs. Despite the issues the project is currently experiencing with rainfall and PFAS contamination, it is stated in the report that the overall progress remains on target to deliver the project in accordance with the final contract date. This update raises a number of questions:
- Where does the result of community consultation submissions fall into this timeline?
- Will the Airservices report of recommendations take submission issues seriously, even if this results in a delay to project timelines?
Appealing to government organisations is the proper protocol and this is the way Flight Path Forum wishes to resolve a good outcome for all stakeholders including communities, businesses, councils, Airservices Australia, and the Sunshine Coast Airport. However, the wheels of government turn slowly and we have collated fact based information to seek legal advice on the matter. To this end associations will appeal to their communities to raise money to go towards a fighting fund to support our objectives of ceasing the lodgement of airspace change and proposed flight paths and form a stakeholder engagement panel where all stakeholders have a seat at the table. In this forum we can transparently assess the best outcomes for the community, the council, the airport and associated businesses.
We invite you to become a member of Flight Path Forum, to stay informed on the issue and support our objectives. Membership is free, however we seek donations to cover association costs of formation, insurance and flyers etc. and primarily to build a fighting fund for associated legal costs. A membership and donation form is attached.
Noosa Hinterland Residents Association held their AGM recently and Flight Path Forum members were invited to update these communities. It was an opportunity to discuss our objectives, actions we have taken to date, our concerns, and a way forward. We would like to thank the organisers of this meeting and the community for their thanks and offers of support.
Flight Path Forum anticipate holding more public meetings to keep communities informed. As soon as we have organised dates and venues we will advertise them to the community and ask for volunteers to assist in delivery of notices.
Thanks for your continued support.
